Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create a CellarWise account, we collect your email address, display name, Firebase Authentication user ID, and sign-in provider information needed to create, secure, and support your account.

Cellar Data

We store the wine and bottle information you add to your cellar, including wine names, producers, vintages, quantities, cellar locations, drinking-window information, preferences, and tasting notes.

Label Photos and Scan Data

When you use the scan feature, we process wine-label photos and scan results so CellarWise can identify wine details and help create bottle records. Label photos may be uploaded to our scan service and processed with Google Cloud Vision for text recognition. We use the photo and extracted text for the scan workflow and do not use label photos to identify you outside CellarWise.

Purchases and Subscriptions

If you buy or restore a CellarWise Premium subscription on Android, purchases are processed through Google Play Billing and managed with RevenueCat. We receive subscription status, purchase status, entitlement status, product identifiers, renewal/cancellation state, and purchase history where provided by Google Play or RevenueCat so we can unlock Premium features, sync entitlements, and restore purchases for your account. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

App Diagnostics

CellarWise uses Firebase Crashlytics in production builds to help diagnose crashes and errors. Crashlytics may collect crash logs, stack traces, device and app metadata, operating system version, technical identifiers such as installation or Firebase identifiers, non-fatal error reports, breadcrumbs, and performance or error data needed to understand and fix app issues. We may associate crash reports with your Firebase user ID, not your email address, to support troubleshooting.

Usage Data

We collect basic in-app usage events, such as which features are used, so we can improve CellarWise and understand Premium feature interest. We do not track your browsing activity outside the app.

Website Analytics

When you visit the CellarWise website, we may use Google Analytics to collect basic website usage information such as page views, approximate location derived from IP address, device/browser information, and interactions with pages so we can understand site performance and improve the marketing site. Google Analytics may set cookies or similar identifiers for this purpose.

How We Use Your Information

  • Account access — Create, authenticate, secure, and support your CellarWise account
  • Cellar management — Store and display your wine collection, bottle records, cellar locations, notes, and preferences
  • Drinking window predictions — Analyze your wines using Google Vertex AI (Gemini) to estimate optimal drinking periods
  • Label scanning — Process wine label photos and scan results via Google Cloud Vision and our scan service to auto-identify wines
  • Subscriptions — Verify Google Play purchases through RevenueCat, manage Premium entitlements, sync subscription state, and restore purchases
  • Diagnostics and app improvement — Diagnose crashes, errors, performance issues, and usage patterns so we can improve reliability and features
  • Website analytics — Measure traffic and engagement on the CellarWise website so we can improve site content and conversion flows

Third-Party Services

CellarWise uses the following third-party services:

  • Firebase Authentication — Account management and sign-in
  • Google Cloud Firestore — Secure storage of account, cellar, bottle, and preference data
  • Google Cloud Vision — Wine label text recognition
  • Google Vertex AI (Gemini) — Drinking window predictions
  • Firebase Crashlytics — Crash, diagnostics, and non-fatal error reporting
  • Google Play Billing — Android subscription purchase processing
  • Google Analytics — Website traffic and engagement analytics
  • RevenueCat — Subscription status, entitlement management, purchase syncing, and restore-purchase support

These providers process information according to their own privacy and security practices. We use them only to operate, secure, support, and improve CellarWise.

Sharing and Sale of Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us operate CellarWise, comply with law, protect users, process purchases, provide diagnostics, or deliver the features you request.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your account, cellar data, bottle records, preferences, scan results, subscription status, and diagnostics are retained for as long as needed to provide CellarWise, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and maintain security.

The app includes an account deletion option in the Profile screen. If that option is unavailable, does not work for your account, or you want help deleting associated CellarWise records, visit Delete Account or contact us at support@cellarwise.app. We will delete or de-identify account and cellar data we control unless retention is required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, billing, or tax reasons. Google Play and RevenueCat may retain purchase records as required for billing, tax, fraud prevention, or compliance.

Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), Firebase security rules, authenticated API access, and access controls for production services.

Children's Privacy

CellarWise is not intended for users under the age of 21. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email.
